Psych's Carlton Lassiter is checking into The Shining's Overlook Hotel.

Make that a new condo building, where some peculiar goings-on are causing the buttoned-up detective (Timothy Omundson) to become totally unhinged, Jack Nicholson style, on next week's "Heeeeere's Lassie!"

Sneak a peek at our exclusive preview (including some creepy twins!) and find out what star James Roday teased to us today about Psych's latest horror homage…

"It's an outstanding showcase for Tim Omundson's wealth of talents," Roday, who directed this episode, raved. "It's an opportunity to do some stuff he's never done on the show before and he just knocks it out of the park. It was a pleasure to watch him work."

If Omundson is playing Jack, then who's subbing for his tormented wife, Shelley Duvall? Why, Lavender Gooms himself, aka Burton Guster (Dulé Hill).

"If Tim is the MVP—which he is—Dulé gets some kind of consolation prize because he does a Shelley Duvall that you will not soon forget," said Roday, bursting into giggles. "He fully embraced his role as Shelley for the climactic sequence in the episode."

Guest star Louis Gossett Jr. will be channeling The Shining's heroic hotel chef, Roday confirmed. "Yes, we are definitely unabashedly riffing on Scatman Crothers with Lou."

In fact, Roday added that the whole episode is "chock-full of winks and nods to the Kubrick film."

See? All work and no play does not make Lassie a dull boy.

Psych airs Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. on USA.

(E! and USA are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
