Times are tough for Lindsay Lohan.

She's trying to piece her career back together, she can't go to New York for Christmas, and now someone's crank-calling her.

"The calls started coming in last week," a source close to the starlet tells E! News. "Strange calls, where sometimes the person would say they were calling from TMZ and would say very peculiar things. And other times, there would just be hang-ups."

Hmm, doesn't sound like TMZ's M.O....

And it isn't.

Nor is it—ready for a blast from the past?—the M.O. of one Sam Lutfi, former Britney Spears manager/hanger-on who is still tangled up in litigation with Brit's parents.

Lutfi tells E! that a report about Lohan's camp suspecting that he was the suspicious caller was dreamed up by the same people who wanted him out of Britney's life and who now run Lindsay's life.

Whoever "they" are.

In the meantime, our source confirms that Lohan has been moved out of the sober house where she'd been staying in Rancho Mirage, Calif., to a more secure facility to continue treatment. She must remain in rehab until at least Jan. 3.

Dina Lohan previously told E! that she and her other kids will be in California for Christmas and New Year's.
