Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have broken ground on a different kind of foundation.

The longtime partners in parenting and philanthropy tied the knot Saturday evening in a lavish yet super private ceremony at father of the bride Lionel Richie's Beverly Hills home, E! News has confirmed.

Along with their vows, E! News has learned that the newlyweds swapped Neil Lane wedding bands (the same jeweler who designed the socialite's stunning engagement ring), and Richie strolled down the aisle in a 1980's style turtleneck lace dress to her father's 1986 hit "Ballerina Girl", which he wrote for her.

E! News had previously learned that Richie would be walking down the aisle in a Marchesa gown that was custom-made for her in New York, and that celeb stylist Byron Williams of Byron & Tracey in Beverly Hills were taking care of the bride's coiffure.

While additional details of the wedding are still being kept under wraps, we do know that an elephant was spotted outside of Lionel's massive estate Saturday evening (although we're not clear on why it was there just yet).

As for the wedding party, Madden's twin bro Benji Madden took care of best man duties, while Samantha Ronson served as a bridesmaid in the musically inclined wedding party, which also included Joel and Nicole's adorably decked out kids, Harlow and Sparrow. Meanwhile, Rev Run officiated the ceremony.

Nicole's former Simple Life mate Paris Hilton was not in attendance, at least saving Benji  from the awkward, "How have you been?" ex routine.

Delivery trucks and other personnel swarmed Lionel Richie's "Brick House" earlier in the week to make sure everything was in order for the Big Day. Security was super tight today, with the street around the hitmaker's estate closed to traffic to prevent looky-loos from getting close to big-named guests like Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale, Kris JennerKhloe Kardashian Odom, Rachel Zoe, Ellen Pompeo, and Pete Wentz who were reportedly shuttled to the wedding from the Beverly Hills Hotel.
