Find out why George Clooney's new movie is one of this year's best

Up in the Air is the one to beat during the upcoming awards season.

Saw the pic over the weekend, and I have to say not only is George Clooney looking better than ever, but so is his acting.

Anna Kendrick better be getting lots of nominations and awards...

Ms. Kendrick, who Twilight fans know as Bella Swan's pal Jessica,  holds her own against Clooney—and then some.

Clooney stars as an always-on-the-road corporate downsizer whose faces off with a young Ivy School grad (Kendrick) brought into his company to shake things up. Rounding things out is Vera Farmiga, a fellow business traveler who steals Clooney's heart.

What's great about this movie is that it's about the storytelling. There are no fancy backdrops, CGI or colorful backdrops to distract us from just that—the story.

Director Jason Reitman lets the actors act. Based on Walter Kirn's novel, the script is clean, tight and smart. In fact, Reitman should talk to someone about adapting Up in the Air for the stage. It's perfect for the theater.

George Clooney on Broadway? Who wouldn't buy a ticket to see that?

And speaking of movies and awards, Academy Awards co-producer Adam Shankman is auctioning off a behind-the-scenes look at the Oscars in an online auction at Clothes Off Our Backs benefiting the Dizzy Feet Foundation. Winner gets to sit in on rehearsals for the big night. Bidding is open until this Friday.
