Meryl Streep Just Broke Her Own Record With 34th Golden Globe Nomination

The 2020 Golden Globe nominations were announced Monday, and Meryl Streep has been nominated for a record-breaking 34th time. See her fellow nominees below!

The 2020 Golden Globe nominations are here, and to no one's surprise, Meryl Streep has snagged an historic nomination!

The actress is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Limited-Series, or TV Movie category for her turn as Mary Louise Wright in Big Little Lies. This marks the iconic star's 34th nomination, beating her previous record of 33. Should she win, it will be her 10th victory at the award ceremony. Honestly, after that infamous scream, how was she not going to snag a nomination?

Streep's competition in the category are The Crown's Helena Bonham Carter, Emily Watson, Patricia Arquette and Toni Collette. Streep's Big Little Lies sparring partner Nicole Kidman is nominated for Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama, for her performance on season two of the show, and the show itself is nominated for Best TV Series, Drama.

Streep and Kidman are the only two women from the cast to be nominated for the show specifically, but Reese Witherspoon did snag a Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama, nomination for her role in The Morning Show, and on the film side, Laura Dern is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Marriage Story. All in all, it was a big morning for the women of Big Little Lies.

Season two of the award-winning drama introduced Streep as the grieving mother of Perry Wright, played by Alexander Skarsgård. And it marked a rare television appearance for the Oscar-winning actress.

In a Big Little Lies round table discussion between Streep, Kidman, Witherspoon, Dern, Zoe Kravitz and Shailene Woodley, the legend detailed what about the series attracted her in the first place.

"One thing I would say is that part of what made it so pungent in the first season, for me as a viewer, was that it was a very specific locale and the people were very specific. It was just how detailed how life was that sort of made it meaningful for me," Streep said.

The show snagging her her 34th Golden Globe nomination is, no doubt, meaningful, as well!

The 2020 Golden Globes will be broadcast live on Sunday, Jan. 5 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
