NBC announced today that superstar TV-show host Oprah Winfrey shot her guest stint on 30 Rock this past Saturday at Silvercup Studios. As I originally reported when I broke the news that she was in talks to do the show, Oprah will be playing herself in scenes opposite Emmy nominee Tina Fey.

Tina Fey said regarding today's announcement: "Oprah is very funny in the episode, and we are beyond grateful to have her.  Also, I would like to announce that we are officially best friends."

But will Oprah appear as Liz's best friend as Tina had hoped? Only I can tell you the details...

According to sources close to the series, when it comes to the show, Oprah will definitely not be playing Liz Lemon's BFF. Instead Liz and Oprah will have a chance meeting and they then spend an extended period of time together, during which Liz entreats Oprah for her assistance with some personal problems. (As do we all, really...) I would love to tell you more but don't want to ruin the end-of-episode twist.

30 Rock was nominated for record 17 Emmys this season, including Best Comedy Series. The show also received seven nods for outstanding guest-star work. And from the sound of it, if this turns out as well as it should, Oprah could very well add another prime-time Emmy to her already groaning-with-gold trophy case...
