They were thisclose to the finals.

But unfortunately tonight's ousted Dancing With the Stars duo fell short, and delivered the most emotional elimination of the season.

Sad? Don't be, because we're here with all the stuff you need to know from backstage at tonight's sobfest of a sendoff:

Spoiler Alert: Bristol Palin was not the lady sent home tonight. No, the teen mom turned dancing queen has waltzed her way into the DWTS finale, leaving poor Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy waaay back in the dust.

"I'm in a lot of shock," the tearful pop star told us following her elimination. "But I'm very blessed to have been a part of something so amazing, where I can rediscover who I am, challenge myself and prove to myself that if I really commit to something and give it my all, I can be success."

And if you ever doubted that these two got along behind the scenes, we're here to set the record straight, because there was nothing but love between Brandy and her pro partner.

"I'm just so thankful to Maks," she said. "He taught me how to dance with confidence." Added the sometimes hotheaded dancer, "I'm very proud of Brandy. It's been an amazing experience, and I really do have a lot to thank her for. It's been challenging, but she's been there in more ways than one."

The love was not lost on the remaining dancers either. Said Jennifer Grey, "Brandy's just been amazing. She's done such a beautiful job, she's such an amazing dancer."

"I haven't been shocked once this season because this show is so unpredictable," Lacey Schwimmer told us. "We are going to miss Brandy so much because she's such a great friend and such a big supporter. But we're happy for Bristol because she's great, too. So sweet!"

Sweet, sure, but if Brandy has her way, it'll be the last man standing dancing away with that mirrorball trophy.

"I'm really hoping for Kyle [Massey] to win," she smiled. "I wish the best for Bristol and Jennifer as well, but if I could have my pick, it'll be Kyle."

Who is your pick? Are any of the remaining dancers your cup of tea, or was Brandy the winner you wanted? Fill us in below.
