According to Hawaii Five-0's new badass star Alex O'Loughlin—who knows just-announced Idol judge Jennifer Lopez well from starring with her in The Back-up Plan—J.Lo is precisely what American Idol needs. No, really! And here's why:
"[Jennifer] will be great," Alex tells me from the set of Hawaii Five-0 in Honolulu. "She's a great girl. She's got a lot of spunk and she's got a great sense of humor. So I think she'll bring a humor edge. She understands musicians and dancers because it's who she is; it's where she comes from...I think she's going to bring something special to the other judges."
Now, mind you Alex isn't just speaking as a former coworker of J.Lo's...He's also a longtime Idol fan. "I love American Idol," the Aussie actor professes, while admitting that he himself is not so musically inclined. "In the words of maybe my favorite comedian Billy Connolly, I've got a voice like a goose farting in the fog. Which is not a good thing."
What is a good thing is that Alex's new series Hawaii Five-0 debuted to strong numbers on Monday—strong enough that assuming the audience comes back for more, Five-0 should be sticking around.
