Emmy Shockers! No Community Love, but Friday Night Lights Finally Gets Some of Its Due

Dexter, Modern Family and Glee are all over this year's nominations, but what about the ones you wanted to see make the cut?

Oh sweet, sweet Emmy Awards. How we love to hate you!

It's hard to pinpoint our exact thoughts on the emotional roller coaster that was this morning's 2010 Emmy nominations (and no, barf bags were not included!). On one hand, seriously stellar shows like Modern Family, Dexter and Glee received nod after nod—and in most cases, deservedly so. But too many more than qualified faves were overlooked all together (Amy Poehler excluded)—and yep, we're talking to you Community, Courteney Cox, Sons of Anarchy and Zach Gilford.

The one silver lining? Friday Night Lights' royal fam Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton were both honored with noms. Can we get a long overdue a-freakin'-men?!

First things first, what the heck Academy of Television Arts and Sciences voters?! NBC's freshman series Community consistently put out amazing material, with an all-star cast to boot. We're all for nostalgia, but giving Tony Shalhoub a Lead Actor in a Comedy nomination for the final season of Monk, thus squeezing out a spot for Greendale funnyman Joel McHale, was not cool. Not. Cool.

Plus, Community's countless additional standouts, including Danny Pudi and Alison Brie, could easily fill in some of those Supporting Acting slots. Just thinkin' out loud here.

And since we're venting about NBC oversights, how about some noms for the much-improved Parks and Recreation? Week to week, P-Rex and Community duked it out for first Thursday-night show to watch on our DVR, plus Nick Offerman as Ron Swanson is perfection. At least our gal Amy Poehler got the nod she so deserved!

Courteney Cox and Cougar Town were sadly left off the nominations list as well, thus continuing the Friends star's streak of lackluster Academy love. (Listen up, guys: This lady is really funny! Show her the money.)

In a Golden Globe nominations déjà-vu, FX's critical sensation Sons of Anarchy was once again completely shut out. There wasn't even a teensy bit Emmy goodness for Katey Sagal's consistently moving portrayal of complex matriarch Gemma Teller Morrow. What gives?!

Survivor was also a shocking snub, after two of its best seasons to date, but thankfully Jeff Probst was nominated as host. Plus, So You Think You Can Dance was missing from the Reality-Competition category...hello?!

The saddest names missing from the ballot have to be Modern Family's Ed O'Neill (but more to come on that later today) and FNL's Zach Gilford, but at least both shows received lots of love, so we can kinda sorta move past this little lapse.

Now for our moments of yay! Aside from a million other Glee nominations, Chris Colfer and Mike O'Malley are both ballot-bound for their portrayal of TV's best father and son evah (if only that were a category!). Matthew Fox finally got the Lost acting nod, along with supporting nominations for Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson (who we'll be talking with later today, so send some Q's), and Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse received writing honors, plus a Best Drama slot for the series. What a way to go out, Losties! Oh, and Elizabeth Mitchell got a nod for her guest spot as Juliet, too.

Also, you may have heard the good news, but except for Ed, every single Modern Family lead received a nomination—how absolutely incredible is that?! We're talking Sofia Vergara, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell.
