Jonah Hill has no intention—we repeat, no intention—of trying be the new or the next Johnny Depp.

Though you might have thought so since the funnyman's set to star in a movie adaptation of 21 Jump Street, the '80s television series that launched Depp's career...

"We're not trying to replace Johnny Depp or have Jonah Hill be Johnny Depp," says Phil Lord, who is codirecting the flick with his Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs collaborator Chris Miller. "I don't know that Johnny Depp is replaceable. He's only like the biggest movie star in the world."

Like the original series, the movie will center on a group of baby-faced cops who go undercover in high schools, but with "all-new characters," Lord said.

They're aiming for an R rating. "It's going to be a superfunny movie and also a really kickass action movie at the same time," Miller said.

For now, Lord and Miller are becoming familiar faces on the awards show circuit. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs has scooped up kudos galore.

They recently made a trip to San Francisco to pick up—ready for this?—a Tasty Award.

"They were very nice and very gracious," Lord said, "to give us the award for Most Outstanding Food-Related Animated Film of the Year."

Sounds pretty sweet to us.
