Donny may be going to a place where another Osmond has gone before. But first, he has some 'splainin' to do.

Apparently not afraid of a curse that his very own sister may have helped unleash, the family-friendly entertainer insinuated Monday that he would be competing on the eighth season of Dancing With the Stars, which premieres in March.

"Well, I guess I am making an announcement," Osmond, with season-five competitor Marie by his side, said during a taping of The Bonnie Hunt Show. "I'll say I am seriously considering doing it, let's put it that way."

At some point, anyway, because he later told Entertaniment Tonight, "I'm definitely not doing this upcoming season. If there was an offer on the table, I'd do it in the fall. I would make room for it. Absolutely."

So what the heck were he and Marie talking about with Hunt?

"We don't comment on casting rumors," a rep for ABC told E! News Monday.

But the Osmonds sure had a lot to say about this particular "rumor."

Their interview dissolved into good-natured sibling rivalry as Donny protested that he couldn't let Marie—"Who do you think taught her how to dance?"—upstage him, and then into full-blown planning for the challenge ahead.

"It is going to be very difficult because I am going to be doing Vegas on top of doing Dancing With the Stars," he said. (Donny and Marie have a standing variety-show engagement at the Flamingo Las Vegas.)

The unbridled enthusiasm offered up by Marie and Bonnie Hunt can be seen on Tuesday's show.

Actually, if he were to compete, Donny, 51, would do well to finish as strongly as Marie—she came in third on DWTS in a season largely remembered for a fainting spell, public revelations about a son in rehab and relentless doll promotion.

All of which involved Marie, by the way.
