He played a rebel on the big screen in Disturbia. Now, Shia LaBeouf's accused of stirring up trouble in real life.

The 21-year-old actor was arrested in Chicago early Sunday morning and charged with misdemeanor trespassing, after refusing to heed security guards' orders at a Walgreens superstore.

Chicago Police Department spokesperson Joann Taylor said officers were summoned by security at the Walgreens, located along the city's famed Michigan Avenue, at about 2:25 a.m. after LaBeouf ignored repeated requests to exit the pharmacy. Guards detained him until police arrived.

The Transformers star was taken into custody and booked on one misdemeanor count of trespassing, based on a complaint filed by one of the store's guards. The actor was released several hours later, after posting bail.

"Once they asked him to leave, he should've left, but at that point it was trespassing," Taylor told E! Online. "But he was very polite and everything."

No immediate word on what transpired between LaBeouf and the guards before the actor was asked to leave. Reps for the actor and Walgreens could not be reached for comment Sunday afternoon.

A hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 28.

LaBeouf got his showbiz break starring in the Disney Channel's Even Stevens. That led to small but significant parts in I Robot, Constantine and the indie drama Bobby. He has been on a major roll this year, voicing the lead penguin Cody in the animated hit Surf's Up and fronting the sleeper hit thriller Disturbia, both of which grossed more than $100 million worldwide, before providing the human face of Transformers, which has topped $700 million worldwide.

LaBeouf's performance in Transformers led Steven Spielberg to cast him in a key role opposite Harrison Ford in the highly anticipated Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which recently wrapped filming and arrives in theaters on May 22.
