Word is Stella McCartney married her beau, publisher Alasdhair Willis, over the weekend, but only the happy couple and their alleged wedding guests know for sure.

Reps for the fashion designer aren't talking, but the British press is reporting that the pair were hitched on Saturday in a secluded chapel on the 300-acre Mount Stuart Gothic estate on the remote Isle of Bute, off the western coast of Scotland.

Among those spotted on the island for the hush-hush five-day celebration were Paul McCartney and his new wife, Heather; Madonna and hubby Guy Ritchie; Coldplay's Chris Martin (there were conflicting reports on whether Martin's steady and Stella's pal Gwyneth Paltrow, in Great Britain to perform the balcony scene from Romeo & Juliet for Prince Charles' annual benefit over the weekend, was in attendance); singer Chrissie Hynde; supermodel Kate Moss; and actress Liv Tyler.

The area holds special significance for Stella and Paul--the island is near the Mull of Kintyre where the family owned a home while Linda McCartney was alive. It's also said to be the inspiration for the Beatles song "The Long and Winding Road" and the Wings hit "Mull of Kintyre."

During the ceremony, Stella paid tribute to her mother, who died of cancer five years ago, with a brief memorial. Her dress, designed with the help of her boss at Gucci Tom Ford, was also said to resemble the fawn dress and yellow coat Linda wore when she and Paul tied the knot at a London registry office in 1969.

With no official information on the nuptials available, the London gossip sheets ran wild with speculation. Among other things:

The Times claims that Pops McCartney spent up to $4.5 million to keep his daughter's wedding a private affair, including $200,000 on a 50-member security army, while turning down offers of up to $2 million to publish wedding snapshots in rags such as OK! and Hello!.

The Mirror said the menu was meatless in honor of Stella and Paul, who are both vegetarians, and included artichoke soufflés, wild mushroom tarts and strawberries with cream for dessert.

The Sunday Mail reported that the newlyweds were transported to the reception in a carriage drawn by two Clydesdale horses.

The News of the World published what appeared to be an aerial shot of the mansion, with the letters S and A spelled out in flowers on the ground.

The Scotsman reported that Madonna sat in her heavily tinted Range Rover during the ferry crossing to the island, while hubby Guy strolled around on deck with commuters and fellow wedding guests, including Moss and Tyler.

When asked, Hynde would only say of the ceremony that Stella looked "beautiful," while Scottish rocker Sharleen Spiteri said, "It was good. It has been a lovely week."
