Celebrity party animal Charlie Sheen is in a Southern California hospital, recovering from a drug overdose, E! Online has learned.

Hospital sources confirmed the hard-living actor was admitted to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, an L.A. suburb, yesterday morning. No word on what specific drug or drugs triggered the OD, however.

Paramedics were summoned to Sheen's Malibu home at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, responding to an emergency call indicating the 32-year-old actor had suffered a possible stroke. Sheen had been complaining of a tingling sensation and loss of feeling in his extremities.

Although the actor was placed in the intensive care unit, sources tell E! he should recover and be released in a few days. As of Thursday night, doctors listed Sheen in "fair but stable condition."

Father Martin Sheen was at the hospital Thursday and spoke briefly to the press.

"I want to assure you that my son, Charlie Sheen, is very much alive," he said. "He's doing very well." The elder Sheen called for his son's friends and fans to show support "in this very difficult time."

Best known for his role in Platoon, the younger Sheen has battled addictions in the past--even entering rehab for drug and alcohol abuse--but has of late tried reinventing himself, declaring himself a born-again Christian and demanding that people start calling him Charles.
