Just because Zach Braff played a gay character in Greg Berlanti's 2000 film The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy doesn't necessarily mean that life is imitating art. Or does it?

A declaration on the Garden State star's website purportedly credited to Braff claims he's "excited and proud that that I am an open member of the homosexual community."

Well, we've done some digging and can definitely declare this statement is...

So false!

It turns out, Braff and Hugh Grant share something in common. They both know what it feels like to be hacked.

A rep for the 36-year-old thespian tells E! News the above-mentioned "coming out" statement is a hoax put up on an old version of Braff's website and is the result of a mischevious hacker

"He was hacked. The website has not been used since 2006," his publicist said. "He is still straight."

Not that there's anything wrong or shameful about being gay.
