Sure, Tom Cruise has had his fair share of embarrassing public moments, but at least one Hollywood hotshot, a Mr. Steven Spielberg, thinks he's an example of how today's young actors should behave in public.

Are ya listenin', Shia LaBeouf?

After Shia's 2007 arrest and last year's Cannes Film Festival, where he ran his mouth about how he wasn't happy with the fourth Indiana Jones flick, Crystal Skull director and Transformers executive producer Spielberg had some solid advice for the Shi-guy:

Keep your fingers out of your nose!

"The way Steven described it to me was, 'When Tom Cruise walks outside his house, he doesn't pick his nose. From the minute he leaves his door to the minute he comes back home, he doesn't pick his nose,'" LaBeouf explained to the LA Times. "Now that's a certain way to live your life that I have no ambitions toward."

Good, 'cause we like our dudes a little rough around the edges! And while LaBeouf may not be gettin' all goody-goody on us anytime soon, he is trying to change certain bad habits.

"I'm trying to find a way to eat up time without being destructive, 'cause that's my go-to, it seems. I have a hard time with free time," reveals LaBeouf.

When he isn't working on big project after big project, he says it's his new girlfriend, a Vietnamese-American stylist he met at a karaoke club in Echo Park, who's helping him mature and try new things.

"Pâté? A cheese plate? That's a very 25-year-old deal," dishes LaBeouf of his new pastime as a foodie. "I can get down with some fig jelly and some cheese on a cracker...She's having me try different things."

Sounds like this relaysh could be a positive force in the actor's la vida loca!

But his new GF isn't the only one guiding Shia to manhood. Turns out his Transformers director, Michael Bay, has also played the role of big bro to the 25-year-old dude. And they even fight like siblings!

"Bay is sort of my big brother,'" Shi opened up to the Times. "We're both very game, very passionate people. Sometimes it's not actor-director. Sometimes it's two dudes yelling over explosions. Sometimes it doesn't sound like the friendliest conversation. But we love each other."

Aww. Too bad Bay declined to be interviewed for the article, we would love to hear what he has to say about his li'l bro!

After Spielberg's solid nose-picking advice, we can only imagine what kind of wisdom Bay would offer LaBeouf on life and the ladies!
