Kim Kardashian takes her Armenian roots very seriously.

A source close to the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star tells E! News Kardashian is upset that a picture she took during a Cosmopolitan photo session was used without her permission on the cover of the magazine's Turkish edition. It's not the image she minds, but its issue date:

Kim's cover hit newsstands in April, during the same month the Armenian people commemorate the nearly 100-year-old genocide committed against them by Turkey.

"She's upset about it obviously, but it was an honest mistake on the behalf of Cosmo," the source tells E! News, noting she would never have signed off on it given her family's Armenian background and the fact that it's so close to April 24, the date the world traditionally remembers the victims of the tragedy.

According to the insider, the curvaceous beauty works with Cosmo all the time and usually she's given copies of the covers for her approval only this one was mistakenly submitted.

"This one just slipped through the cracks," adds the source. "I can't imagine that they would have done this on purpose. Kim has a really great relationship with Cosmo."

Indeed she does, and it sounds as if Kim is taking the high road.

"When I did this shoot for the international covers I had no idea that Turkey was planning to run my story on their cover THIS month, considering Genocide Remembrance Day is this month. My Armenian heritage means a lot to me and I've been brought up to be incredibly proud of my family's background and culture so as an Armenian-American woman it is a huge honor for me to be on the first ever Armenian Cosmopolitan cover," Kim wrote on her blog.

"I have an amazing relationship with Cosmopolitan Magazine. World-over, Cosmo is known as a fun and inspiring magazine for women of all races, shapes, sizes, regardless of their political beliefs and I really hope that if I can bring awareness to the issue, then this in an accomplishment."

The insider notes the magazine was extremely apologetic and that Kardashian will continue to work with them in the future.

A rep for Cosmo tells E! News: "Kim Kardashian is one of our favorite cover girls. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to photograph her for the Cosmopolitan editions worldwide."
