Another day, another bit of casting news for Superman fans to argue over. Maybe this will be the role-portrayal they'll all be on board with.

Warner Bros. announced today the casting of Academy Award nominated Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) as General Zod in Zack Snyder's new Superman film, Man of Steel

Shannon, 35, will go up against Henry Cavill, who was cast as Superman earlier this year. Filling out the rest of the all-important cast is Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.

Director Snyder says in a statement: "Zod is not only one of Superman's most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don't. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role."

Have at it, Superman fans! What do you think of this casting update?
