The R&B singer says she boycotted the festivities because felt she was snubbed by producers, who did not ask her to be part of the show's opening tribute to Aretha Franklin.
"They were honoring someone who was my idol and there is no way I could have sat there and not got the happy feet and wanting to jump on the mic because she is my favorite," the Americal Idol alum told BET's 106 & Park Monday.
So what did she do instead?
Fantasia said she stayed in for a quiet evening at home with her daughter.
"I felt like, you know, at the end of the day I should have been on that stage so, I kind of did my own little thing last night," she said. "I was kinda going through my own little thing. I cooked, I was in my own world."
When the singer found out she'd finally won a Grammy of her own, she said she scared her daughter after she began crying.
"Every year when I go I feel like they always look over the good singers who are still around so this has just given me motivation. I just started crying and thanking God," she said. "I'm nominated 11 times, I finally got one."
Fantasia wasn't totally Grammy-free, though, admitting she did catch the performances by Cee Lo and Rihanna.
