Even a comedian like Chelsea Handler knows when it's time to get serious.

Sophia Bush visited Chelsea Lately tonight, and after some adorable chitchat about fundraising for Gulf disaster relief, playing mixed-up matchmaker for gay pals and her romance with costar Austin Nichols, the One Tree Hill star and the E! funnylady turned their conversation to a more somber subject: the slaying of Bush's 9-year-old relative, Christina Green, in this weekend's shooting near Tuscson.

"It's been a lesson more than anything for me and for my family that life is incredibly short," Sophia told Chelsea of her second-cousin's death. "You've gotta take every day and tell the people you love that you do.

"It's really important for all of us to take a step back. It's easy to get heated and to scream and yell about what's going on in the world, but when it's getting irresponsible, when it's getting out of control in the world of journalism and television..." the actress continued.

"Anything that incites any sort of violence," added Chelsea. "I'm the biggest bully there is. I make fun of everybody...But you can't ever, ever suggest violence."
