You could say Times Square officials dropped the ball on Snooki.

The pint-sized Jersey Shore star had been planning on spending midnight inside in a clear glass ball that was to be dropped by MTV at its network headquarters in the center of the chaos on Broadway opposite the more famous crystal ball. Well, now the Snookster needs a new plan after city officials put the kibosh on her stunt.

Why?

"There's only one star on New Year's Eve in Times Square and it's Mayor Bloomberg and his crystal ball," Naughty but Nice columnist Rob Shuter, who broke the story, tells E! News. "And there's only one woman that's going to be dropped and that's Kathy Griffin from CNN for cursing."

And it's not just Snooki who lost her spot. Apparently, MTV has lost its coveted spot on the island in the center of the Times Square crosswalk, and will now just broadcast from its studio for the hourlong bash hosted by funnylady Whitney Cummings with a performance by Flo Rida.

Snooki, meanwhile, will be ringing in 2011 in a more familiar setting: the Jersey Shore house where the cast lives while filming. MTV will be cutting back and forth from New York and New Jersey.

"We love our Times Square home and while we're disappointed there won't be a Snooki ball drop there, she cannot be denied! So we're taking a road trip to the place where it all began, Seaside Heights, and droppin' it all there," says the network in a statement.

And Snooki isn't sweatin' it.

"Don't worry, I'm still gonna be your fricken' NYE hamster ina ball," she tweeted this afternoon. "I wish NYC would focus on digging out @MattyKTalent in Queens instead of worrying about where I'm gonna drop it."

We're guessing whatever they have in store, it will include lots of booze. Salute!
