The nominations are out for the most prestigious, relevant, exclusive, cutting-edge awards show around! Oh no, wait, our bad. It's just the People's Choice Awards.
Queen Latifah is once again set to emcee the increasingly inclusive awards bash, which, as always, has gone out of its way to honor every genre in Hollywood. In addition to the standard movie, TV and music categories, chefs, web celebrities (which kind of reads like a list of regular celebrities to us), TV doctors (sorry, Phil and Oz, these are all fictional) and viral video stars are also getting a shot at thanking you, the people.
So who's up for this honor of honors? Funny you should ask…
There's no getting around it: Twilight continues to look like a statuette-collecting machine (who needs the Oscars?). The Twilight Saga: Eclipse scored a leading eight nominations, including Favorite On-Screen Team nods for Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, Favorite Movie Actor and Actress nods for the trio and Favorite Movie Star Under 25 nominations for Stewart and Pattinson.
Robert Downey Jr. also had quite a banner morning, scoring Favorite Actor, Favorite Action Star and Favorite On-Screen Team nominations—the latter thanks to an assist from Don Cheadle—for Iron Man 2.
On the TV side, Grey's Anatomy led all contenders, scoring acting nods for Patrick Dempsey and Sandra Oh and a Favorite TV Drama nod. Ellen Pompeo also joins Oh and Dempsey in the running to be named Favorite TV Doctor. The trio vies against House's Hugh Laurie and Robert Sean Leonard for the medical honor.
Meanwhile, there's a bit of much-needed good news for Demi Lovato this morning, as the Sonny With a Chance star scored a nomination for Favorite TV Guest Star thanks to her dramatic turn in Grey's Anatomy. She's up against heavy hitters Betty White, Britney Spears, Carrie Underwood and Neil Patrick Harris, while her Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam also earned a nod for Favorite Family TV Movie.
As far as reality shows go, E!'s own Keeping Up With the Kardashians scored a nod for Favorite TV Guilty Pleasure, and will vie against Jersey Shore, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, The Real Housewives of New Jersey and Tosh.0 for the prize.
E!'s reigning late-night funnylady Chelsea Handler also got in on the nomination action, as the Chelsea Lately ringmaster is up for Favorite Talk Show Host. She's up against Conan O'Brien, Ellen DeGeneres, George Lopez and Oprah Winfrey. Better luck next year, Jay and Dave.
There's no major shockers on the music side of things, as the usual suspects Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Usher, Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift, P!nk, Daughtry, Carrie Underwood and pretty much anyone who released an album this year or last got name checked on the ballot (uh, not to take anything away from them or anything).
As for those categories that are exclusive to the People's Choice Awards, the five celebrities somewhat inexplicably chosen to compete for Favorite Web Celeb this year are Alicia Keys, Betty White, Jimmy Fallon, Katy Perry and Teri Hatcher.
And would you look at that? We made it through the whole thing without once mentioning that Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston are set to face off as the people's Favorite Movie Actress in what will no doubt become the Most Important Award of the Night, Possibly Ever. Oh, darn. So close.
