"Deeply distressing" doesn't really cover it.

Lily Allen's rep has confirmed the devastating news that the British pop star has suffered a miscarriage six months into what seemed to be an otherwise healthy pregnancy.

"It is with great sadness that we have to confirm that Lily Allen and Sam Cooper have lost their baby," her publicist, Murray Chalmers, said today.

The 25-year-old announced in August that she was expecting a child with her 32-year-old boyfriend. She was three months along at the time.

"The couple ask that their privacy be respected and that they be left alone at this deeply distressing time," Chalmers said.

Sadly for Allen, it's the second time she has suffered a miscarriage.

Back in January 2008, just a month after announcing that she was expecting a child with then-beau Ed Simmons of the Chemical Brothers,  the "Not Fair" singer confirmed she had lost the baby.

As for Lily, her friends are already stepping up to help her out through this difficult time.

She was due to perform at an AIDS fundraiser for Elton John in London a few days ago, but was forced to pull out. She said she was suffering from a viral infection, but since she was pregnant, was unable to take medication and was forced to remain on bed rest. Elton took the stage instead in her absence.

It's unclear if that illness had anything to do with her loss.
