The 25-year-old Oscar-nominated actress was hanging for most of the evening with a young bearded gentleman in a winter's cap who looked a lot like British actor Tom Sturridge.
Romance rumors began for Mulligan and Sturridge (not only is he best pals with Robert Pattinson, but he recently completed filming On the Road opposite Kristen Stewart) this weekend after they were reportedly spotted together in Hollywood.
Now, if in fact the man last night at the Beverly Hilton hotel was Sturridge and he and Mulligan are more than just friends, they were careful to keep it on the down-low. They certainly didn't seem very coupley. They sat next to each other at their table, but they weren't exactly alone much.
They spent a good portion of the evening with fellow Brits Garfield and Minnie Driver and chatted with Garrett Hedlund, the hunky star of the upcoming Tron: Legacy and another of Sturridge's On the Road costars.
Sturridge didn't walk the red carpet and wasn't photographed inside the event.
And just when we thought these two really would want to be left alone, there they were spotted later in the evening leaving paparazzi central, the Chateau Marmont hotel in West Hollywood.
It's not exactly the place to go when ya don't want to be seen.
