Somebody's trying to turn our material world upside down.

Yes, after years of us calling Madonna the Material Girl, a California company is insisting she isn't.

Say it ain't so...

Apparel firm LA Triumph has sued the Queen of Pop, claiming that the new juniors line "Material Girl," which she runs with daughter Lourdes, is a trademark infringement on the company's line of the same name.

Per court papers filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court, LA Triumph asserts it has been peddling its own juniors line with the "Material Girl" moniker since 1997 and own the rights to the name.

This despite the fact that Madonna's seminal song came out in 1983. A rep for the singer was not immediately available for comment.

Per the suit, LA Triumph says it manufactures its wares in Cerritos, Calif., and offers them in stores like Nordstrom's and Ross. Problem is, according to the court docs, the "Dress You Up" singer has sealed a deal to sell her duds at Macy's and both lines will have roughly the same price tag, causing confusion in the marketplace.

"As a result of their acts, our client faces a risk of being subsumed by Madonna's profile, obvious worldwide notoriety and the massive spending campaign by Madonna, her company and retailers on her behalf," LA Triumph attorney Chris Arledge tells E! News.

The company is seeking a court declaration that it's the rightful owner of the "Material Girl" mark with respect to clothing and that it has the right sell its line, given its 13-year history of doing so.

Let's hope this thing gets sorted out stat. After all, we don't think anyone wants to see their kids in a pair of Papa Don't Preach jeans.
