Emmys Finally Make Good on Neil Patrick Harris Nomination

Now three-time nominee is added to ballot after his name was left off list of nominees for Tony-hosting gig

We'd like to thank the Academy…for being big enough to admit when they've made a goof of epic proportions.

When Emmy nominations were announced last month, Neil Patrick Harris seemed to have nothing to complain about, having racked up kudos for How I Met Your Mother and his guest spot on Glee.

But his eagled-eyed, ever-loving public knew better than to be content with just that, and set about getting NPH what was rightfully his: a third nomination.

You see, Harris' name was inadvertently left off the list of nominees for the Best Special-Class Program, which should have honored his bravura hosting stint at last year's Tony Awards. (While emcees used to get their own category, the Best Performance in a Variety Special nominees have since been rolled into the Special-Class Program umbrella, thus paving the way for oversights in the suddenly overcrowded field.)

Problem is, no one on the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences noticed the omission. Neither did the producers of the Tonys. And neither, it must be said, did anyone from Harris' camp.

But a pencil-pusher over at the Los Angeles Times did notice, and after pestering the concerned parties for a comment on the slight, got one better. Make that, one big one better.

Thanks to their persistence, Harris' name has officially been added to the Emmy ballot, making him a three-time nominee. And possibly making a certain newspaper employee the recipient of a gift basket or two.
