Kirsten Dunst Does Whatever a Witness Can—Except Smoke Pot

Spider-Man star takes the stand for a second time against an alleged purse snatcher

Mary Jane Watson is no stranger to falling from great heights (see Spider-Man 1, 2, and 3). But does that mean she likes to get high?

Kirsten Dunst took the witness stand at the retrial of the man accused of burglarizing her New York hotel room three years ago, and in response to defense questioning denied that she smoked pot, though she acknowledged her assistant does.

The 28-year-old actress was being cross-examined by the lawyer for James Jimenez, the New Yorker facing his second trial for allegedly breaking into Dunst's penthouse suite at the SoHo Grand hotel in 2007 and snatching a $2,000 purse while she was shooting How To Lose Friends and Alienate People with Simon Pegg.

"I don't," answered the thesp when asked whether she inhaled.

Jimenez's defense is trying to suggest that Dunst and a member of her entourage may have invited Jimenez and another man, Jarrod Beinerman, into her suite to buy weed, and that the defendant had nothing to do with the theft.

But the black-clad Dunst shot down that argument, saying she didn't know either man.

Dunst was also quizzed about prior statements she gave the press when she once referred to the late Carl Sagan, who smoked pot, and said the world would be a better place if "everyone smoked weed." But the judge blocked that line of questioning and said she need not answer.

Jimenez's buddy later pleaded guilty to the burglary charge. Although Jimenez was convicted of trespassing, the original jury deadlocked on the more serious charges of theft, necessitating today's do-over.
