Life Insurance-Procuring Ex-Survivor Producer Wants His Kids Back

Bruce Beresford-Redman files to terminate his parents' temporary guardianship of his and his late wife's children

Bruce Beresford-Redman wants to retake responsibility for the family he has left.

The TV producer, whose wife Monica Burgos was killed while they were on vacation in Mexico last month, filed a petition Thursday to terminate his parents' temporary guardianship of his and Monica's children, Camila, 5, and Alec, 3, saying he is "capable and fit" to be their primary caregiver again.

Mexican authorities investigating Monica's death did not allow Beresford-Redman to return to the United States until this past weekend after coming up empty on reasons to detain him further.

The former Survivor producer has also requested that the kids' upcoming visit with their mom's sisters, Carla and Jeanne, on Sunday be postponed so that they are not with them when the women have a memorial service planned for Monica.

"It is not that I do not want Camila and Alec to honor their mother's memory," Beresford-Redman stated in his petition. Rather, he says, he agrees with the children's therapist that "psychologically, it would be healthier for the children to participate in a small, quiet and private memorial for their mother that is more tailored to their needs, as opposed to a large public service that will likely attract media attention."

He'd rather the kids see their aunts on Saturday, the petition states.

Also included in the filing are declarations from Bruce's parents, David and Juanita, agreeing with their son's request to take charge of Camila and Alec again.

Meanwhile, ABC News is reporting that Beresford-Redman, who Mexican police named their No. 1 "person of interest" in his wife's death, took out two life-insurance policies on Monica and their children a week before her body was found in a sewer at their Cancun hotel.

Per ABC, one was worth $500,000, while the other would pay out $50,000 in the case of accidental death while traveling.
