X-Men fans should prepare for another blast from the past.

The latest chapter in the ongoing effort to tell the backstory of Professor X, Magneto and how they ended up being the masters of all things mutant (and mortal enemies) is coming to a theater near you next year.

X-Men: First Class is set to unspool June 3, 2011, and will be directed by Matthew Vaughn, whose latest effort, the uncompromisingly profane 'n' funny Kick-Ass, was one of the most buzzed-about movies of the spring.

The British filmmaker also directed the caper flick Layer Cake and the Michelle Pfeiffer- and Claire Danes-starring fairytale Stardust.

X-Men: First Class joins X-Men Origins: Wolverine in the growing group of 20th Century Fox-made films telling the story of how the Marvel comic-book heroes came to be.
