It's just about impossible to steal a scene from Robert Downey Jr. But this just might do the trick.
Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau tells the Los Angeles Times that a cameo from Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein, filmed just two months before his death, will remain in the summer blockbuster in what's being called a pivotal scene for the superhero sequel.
Not only that, Favreau said the film itself will be dedicated to the late spinner, with both his name and signature lightning-bolt trademark appearing in the end credits.
"We tried to make it respectful, and for people who know him, they'll get a kick out of it, and for people who don't, it will sort of slide by without much notice," Favreau said.
The scene takes place at Tony Stark's Malibu pad, where he's reportedly having a very, very good time at his birthday party. AM appears behind the turntables as the resident DJ. Right before the key (and, for now, secret) action kicks off, Tony tells the late 36-year-old, "Adam, I need a fat beat."
"I'm just a fan of his, just an admirer of his work, and it was supposed to be a one-day bit," he said of AM's part. "But Robert took a real shine to him, as we all did. His energy was amazing, he was such an inspiring guy and there was a lot of depth to him and this positive energy.
"He ended up staying on with us for about a week and it was just great; we set up this turntable and between takes he would give me pointers.
"When he passed, it was very difficult for a lot of us…Our heart goes out to his family and friends and we hope what we've done is pleasing to them and to the many, many people who held Adam in high regard."
The film is set for a May 7 release.
