Jon & Kate Kinda Reunite for First Day of School

After a quick trip to L.A. for Larry King Live, the mom joins her ex to send her kids off on a school bus

The Gosselin twins, Cara and Mady, started third grade today. Kate drove the girls to the bus stop to see them off on the first day, but who's that in the background in the cargo shorts?

It's Jon! He made it! See, he is a good dad "deep down." He didn't even bring a girlfriend on the back of his ATV or embarrass his kids with his usual Ed Hardy overload.

Jon and Kate did stand miles apart, drive in separate cars and "there was no interaction" between the two, according to an eyewitness. "I don't think they spoke to each other." But, you know, whatever works.

The bus came, Kate loaded the girls on, Jon waved goodbye and the soon-to-be official exes drove off in their cars. First day of school mission complete.

The sextuplets start school tomorrow. Everything will probably go the same, but we'll keep you posted.

Then Saturday is Jon's big pool party at Wet Republic in Vegas, and we know who his date will be. (Spoiler alert! Don't jump if you like surprises!)

"Jon loves his mom and felt like she deserved a nice getaway," a source tells E! News.

It's going to be the most awesome pool party ever in the history of professional pool-party hosting.
