Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice, shame on us. Fool us three times and chances are you're Speidi with a shtick that's wearing dangerously thin.

Heidi and Spencer Pratt took their contrived fakeness to whole new levels early Wednesday, dispatching a pair of sheet-shielded decoys to Los Angeles International Airport, fooling paparazzi no one into believing they had arrived home, all while they continue to plot their imminent return to I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!

The intentionally conspicuous Speidi doubles shrouded themselves in black sheets as they made their way through LAX just after midnight and into a bodyguard-flanked waiting car.

In a journalistic endeavor that would make Deep Throat proud, E! News has confirmed the identities of the phony couple as none other than Spencer's sister and fellow Hills star Stephanie Pratt and a Pratt pal known only, ironically, as Spenser.

The move comes on the heels of the real Speidi's publicity-fueled decision to quit the NBC reality show before almost immediately publicly begging to be let back on.

For his part, Pratt was quick to blame higher powers for his lapse in rationality, tweeting last night that "the devil fooled speidi in to making an awful decision and we are praying to Jesus to get NBC to give us another shot to redeem."

He later reiterated his resolve for a second chance, tweeting, "Were Praying to Jesus that NBC forgives us for being quitters! Quitters never win and a winner never quits!"

A PR-loving reality star, on the other hand, apparently does both. The duo, who announced their supposed LAX travel plans to every media outlet with a pulse, remains in Costa Rica and is expected to return to I'm a Celebrity sometime during tonight's episode.

NBC reality boss Paul Telegdy confirmed today to Ryan Seacrest that Speidi has yet to leave the jungle, but said there may be some sort of penalty for their temporarily leaving camp and breaking show rules.

Meanwhile, the fates of would-be replacements Holly Montag, Heidi's sister, and Daniel Baldwin, whose brother Stephen is already on the show, remain unknown. Montag was due to fly to Costa Rica yesterday, while Baldwin has already arrived in the jungle.
