While the announcement of the 2009 MTV Movie Awards host is exciting, please don't do that thing he sang about on Saturday Night Live.

Andy Samberg is set to front the 18th annual edition of the cheeky awards show—which will likely be dominated by all things Twilight and Dark Knight—on May 31 at the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, Calif.

"Andy Samberg has been tapped to be the host," E! News' Ryan Seacrest revealed this morning. "He's great."

"I'm super excited to host the Movie Awards," the comic cutie said in a statement. "I grew up watching the show and a lot of the past hosts are heroes of mine. Plus my friends and I were writers for the show prior to working at SNL, so it will be a sweet and satisfying homecoming. I can't wait to act really important."

The I Love You, Man star follows recent past hosts Mike Myers, Sarah Silverman and Jessica Alba. This year's nominees to take home buckets of golden popcorn have yet to be announced. Unlike the Oscars or Golden Globe Awards, fans vote for their winners in common (Best Actor, Best Actress, etc.) and quirky (Best Kiss, Best Villain, etc.) categories.

Thankfully, Seacrest also asked the question any Samberg fan would want to know: "Will he do something with his box on the MTV Awards?"

And, we have to add, will the Lonely Island man bring box-sporting cohort Justin Timberlake along?
