Is Nicollette Sheridan gone for good?

While Dana Delany told us earlier this week that Sheridan's final day of work on Desperate Housewives was Monday, show creator Marc Cherry hints that Edie could return to Wisteria Lane.

"I don't know if that's Nicollette's last day," Cherry told us last night at Hollywood's Bardot club, where he was cohosting a benefit for the Douglas Blasdell Outreach Program. "I wouldn't be surprised if that's just a nasty rumor and Nicollette has more Desperate Housewives episodes in her future."

Yeah, but what about the reports Edie is likely to be killed off...by Cherry's own pen?

"The reason the word is out about Nicollette is because there's an episode coming out where the lives of two Desperate Housewives are in danger…The truth of the matter is, nobody's safe on Wisteria Lane. They know that any one of them can go at any second."

But it doesn't sound like Delany, who plays Katherine Mayfair, has anything to worry about anytime soon.

"I definitely want to expand Dana's part," Cherry promised. "We kind of put her a little in the background this year because she had so much last year, so I hope to do more stuff with her."

And more stuff with some of Hollywood's legendary ladies. "I would love to work with Mary Tyler Moore, Vanessa Redgrave and folks like Elaine Stritch, who I'm going to try to get to Wisteria Lane at some point," Cherry said. "I'm always attracted to those grand ol' dames."
