We're not saying that Katy Perry is a bad dresser, but she does wear a lot of looks that could be called costumes.

But that's not the case where these two cocktail dresses are concerned. The "Roar" singer is still far from understated, thanks to the all-over sparkle, but both the Julien Macdonald stunner on the left and gold standard D&G at right have classic silhouettes. We should just celebrate this moment, but it's way more fun to treat it as a one-woman fashion face-off!

We were prepared to call this blue/green dream Katy's best look ever before we saw the shiny cropped-top combo. The shape on her neckline is absolute perfection, as is the mosaic-inspired pattern throughout the dress. It hugs this curvy beauty in all the right places without being too tight or showy in any one spot.

But the competition is stiff thanks to this glowing, lacy look. The CoverGirl looks like an Italian diva circa 1950. All she needs is a red Vespa and a hot man (perhaps John Mayer would do?), and she'd make a killer poster for the tourism board of Rome.

So we know the more colorful look is more stunning, but in our book the Dolce & Gabbana is more original. What's your take?
