Now that the holiday season is in full swing, we feel we need to warn all of our readers to shimmer and sparkle responsibly over the next few weeks.  We know everyone gets a little festive and thinks they can pull off any makeup that catches the light just right, but we assure you that's not the case. Just look at poor Camila Alves

We took one look at the Brazilian model and exclaimed, "Wow, she would look so much better without makeup!"  The shimmery bronze eyeshadow smeared in the inner corners of her eyes clashed with the super shimmery pink lip gloss (usually reserved for Real Housewives and porn stars).

The thick black eyeliner and eyeshadow used on both her upper and lower lash lines was way too harsh and actually makes her eyes look droopy and smaller. We like that Mrs. McConaughey's brows are large and in charge but coupled with the severe makeup, it's just way too much look.

Beauty Bailout:  We would start by prepping Camila's entire upper eye area with a primer or concealer. Then, we would sweep a matte eyeshadow (that matched her skin tone) over her lid, from lash line to brow bone.

We would tone down this look big time by using a purple and grey palette to bring out the brown in her eyes without clashing with her red dress.  We would apply a matte grey eyeshadow like Sephora Collection Colorful Eyeshadow N° 59 Berlin Underground on her lids.

Using a back and forth windshield wiper motion, we would then apply a matte eggplant like MAC Eye Shadow in Eggplant Purple in her creases. To add depth and definition, we would then blend a deep plum like MAKE UP FOR EVER Eyeshadow in Star Purple 142 into the outer corners of her eyes.

After blending the eye shadow, we would use deep purple eyeliner like Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner to create a thin line along her upper lash line. Next, we would use the eyeliner to apply a thin line along the outer corner of her lower lash line and blend to soften. We would complete this look by applying 2-3 coats of volume-building mascara like Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes Statement Mascara.

We would have definitely made Camila throw away that awful frosty pink lip gloss.  We would have put her in a soft creamy honey-colored lipstick like NARS Lipstick in Honolulu Honey.

We only wish Camila would have consulted with us before leaving the house trying to shimmer brighter than the Christmas tree. Just remember readers… let this teach you a valuable lesson: you must limit yourself to one subtle shimmer or sparkle this holiday season (especially if you're over 30; that's right we said it).
