We've never met her. We've barely heard of her. Who the heck is this myster woman who gave birth to one of Canada's best pop stars?!
ANSWER: It wasn't a question we even really thought of asking until it was answered. While we had met Robin's father, played by Ray Wise, a few times, we were all shocked when Robin's mother showed up at the end of "Vesuvius," and was played by none other than legendary comedian Tracey Ullman!
Much of this ninth season was spent wondering what would become of Lily and Marshall: Would they stay in New York, where Marshall already accepted a judgeship without asking Lily, or would they move to Rome so that Lily can live out her own dream?
ANSWER: Yes! It caused a lot of tension between Lilypad and Marshmallow, but in the end, Lily revealed she was pregnant and it was the push Marshall needed to put his dream on hold for a bit. At the end of the episode, "Daisy," we got a flashforward to one year later when Marshall, Lily, Marshall's mom, Lily's dad, toddler Marvin, and baby Daisy are happily living in Italy.
Damnit Trudy! What about the pineapple?! One of the biggest mysteries aside from the mother herself, diehard HIMYM fans have wondered since the very first season how that pineapple ended up on Ted's nightstand after a night of drunken shenanigans.
UPDATE! In the Nov. 18 episode, "Mom and Dad," fans were presented with a measly six-second flashback to a week before the wedding: "I'm calling it," Ted grumbled, before knocking over an elaborate, Homeland-inspired thinking board that tracked the origin of the pineapple. And that was it. No answers; no funny, elaborate tale. Just a distant "Dammit!" from Ted as he shuffled off-screen. We may never know what truly happened…
We've waited eight seasons to finally see The Mother and now that we've met her all we want to know is what on earth is her name?! There's a theory that she shares the name Tracy with a stripper who Ted once tried to momentarily fool his kids into thinking was their mother, but we'll just have to wait and see...
ANSWER: It's Tracy McConnell! Attention everyone, The Mother's name is TRACY MCCONNELL! Same initials as our dear Ted Mosby, and the same name that matched the theory that has been floating around since seasone one.
Ted has mentioned in two separate episodes that he would like to name his future kids after the characters of his favorite movies of all time: Star Wars. So did Ted really name his kids Luke and Leia? Would The Mother let that slide?
ANSWER: In the Jan. 20 episode, "Unpause," the kids' names were finally unveiled in a heartwarming flashback. The daughter's name is Penny and the son's name is Luke! Looks like The Mother is a huge Star Wars fan as well…
What legendary job does Barney have?! We know he's great at firing people, shredding documents and loves his wall full of inspirational posters, but we have no idea what Barney does or how he can afford such a lavish apartment.
ANSWER: In the Jan. 20 episode, "Unpause," Ted and Robin discovered that when given a ridiculously large amount of alcohol, Barney will tell the truth about anything. We discovered that his official job title is P.L.E.A.S.E.— Provide Legal Exculpation And Sign Everything. This job legally implicated Barney in all corporate mishaps and schemes, but we learned that it has all been a scheme to get revenge on the man who stole Barney's girlfriend all those years ago.
Park cockroach, part mouse, equal parts terrifying. The cockamouse was first seen in season one in the apartment, but it later escaped (by flying out the window!) and was found to be dwelling in The Arcadian in Season 6. Will the cockamouse somehow reappear this season during the wedding?
ANSWER: Yes! In the series finale, Marshall and Lily came to the realization that they needed to move out of their beloved apartment and into a bigger place. Their tipping point? Seeing the Cockamouse again!
Stripper Lily, Mustache Marshall, Lesbian Robin, Mexican Wrestler Ted and Fertility Dr. Barney. Throughout the years we finally met all five doppelgangers, but will we see them again in this final season? Also, does The Mother have a doppelganger?!
ANSWER: Yes! We saw Jasmine, aka Lily's stripper Doppelganger, in episode 21, "Gary Blauman," and we discovered that Scooter (David Burtka) ended up marrying Stripper Lily. They now work together at a cafeteria. As for the mother, we never learned if she has a doppelganger.
No season would be complete without the catchy tunes and wild adventures of Robin Sparkles, so will we see her put on her jelly bracelet and her cool graffiti coat one last time at the wedding?
ANSWER: No. We did not get to see a Sparkles sightings this season. However, did you catch what song Robin walked down the aisle to? It was a lovely instrumental version of "Sandcastles in the Sand" and it was perfect.
Originally, Marshall was awarded with five slaps to smack Barney in the face as hard as he can, but after Barney begged to get rid of the Ducky Tie, Marshall was awarded three extra slaps. So far, Marshall has used six, so the question is: Will we see the two remaining slaps before the series ends?
UPDATE! In the Jan. 13 episode, " Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmarra" Marshall sought the wisdom from the three slap masters in order to make Barney's next slap as painful as humanly possible. Marshall slapped Barney beneath a willow tree, next to four women and a tiger and now there's only one slap left.
ANSWER: In the series' penultimate episode, "The End of the Aisle," Marshall doled out one final slap as Barney was freaking out about the color of his tie, just before Robin walked down the aisle. Barney was ecstatic: "I'm free! It's over!" And the ceremony went off without a hitch (unless you count the adorable but slightly unsettling ring bear).
From "Let's Go to the Mall" to "Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit" and "You Just Got Slapped," musical numbers have always been an important and beloved part of the HIMYM universe. So how many more performances will grace our TV screens this season?
UPDATE! We found out that the Mother is also a singer, thanks to her gorgeous and somewhat heartbreaking rendition of "La Vie en Rose." We're crying again just thinking about it.
ANSWER: No. There were no big musical numbers at all in season nine and we definitely feel like a part of our soul is now missing.
Wendy the waitress used to be a common sight in MacLaren's Pub, but we haven't seen her since season six when she and Meeker bonded over the hatred of Marshall. Ted runs into Wendy at Hong Kong airport in 2021 and learns that she married Meeker and has three kids, but will she be a surprise guest at Barney and Robin's wedding?
ANSWER: No. We never saw or heard from Wendy the Waitress again. We did, however, discover that Carl still works at MacLaren's Pub and he and his young son are turning it into a family business.
Since the pilot, the catchphrase "Haaave you met Ted" has been a fan favorite quote for How I Met Your Mother. It has since been adapted and tweaked to introduce other members of the HIMYM gang, but the original line will always have a place in our hearts. Will we hear this infamous line again this season?
ANSWER: Yes! In the amazing 200th episode, fans flashed all the way back to the pilot when one of The Mother's friends arrived in the wrong MacLaren's Pub. While she was racing out to meet up with her friends to celebrate The Mother's birthday, we heard Barney utter those legendary four words once again. Also, in the series finale, Barney attempted to use "Haaaaaaaave you met Ted?" to indroduce Ted to the Mother.
Even though Ted's red cowboy boots were destroyed by his psycho ex-girlfriend Jeanette, we're still left with one very important question: Could Ted really pull them off?
ANSWER: We actually posed this question to Josh Radnor, and his answer was pretty definite: "No, no, not at all! That's a part of the show where I was like, 'What the hell is this?' Like I went to them and I said, 'This is ridiculous.' Like, Ted has pretty good style. There's no way he thinks these look good."
The Ducky Tie was Barney's main accessory in season 7 after he lost a bet to Marshall and was forced to wear it for a year. He eventually was able to get out of the bet in exchange for 3 extra slaps. We know that Barney is going to mention the Ducky Tie at the wedding, but will we see it again?
Accompanied by The Proclaimers' painfully catchy tune, "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)," Marshall's Fiero was just a tiny bit short of hitting 200,000 miles before hitting a pothole and ending up in the shop, broken beyond repair. Even though we already said our goodbyes to the Fiero, is it possible that we could see it again this season? Or maybe Marshall's son Marvin will end up with a Fiero of his very own!
ANSWER: No. We never saw Marshall's Fiero again, but the memories of "500 Miles" will live on in our hearts, and will be stuck in our heads for many years to come.
Robin's ex-boyfriend Simon Tremblay was the lead singer of the band The Foreskins. For over a decade, Simon claims that The Foreskins are just four or five gigs away from really hitting it big, so will this Canadian punk rock band finally make it? Maybe they could perform "Murder Train" at Barney and Robin's wedding...
ANSWER: In the all-rhyming episode "Bedtime Stories," Robin ran into Simon (James Van Der Beek) at a cake shop and discovered that he was clean-shaven, put together and engaged to someone else, so of course she stole and ate all of his wedding cake, as you do.
