This fall, Charlie Puth has been celebrating the success of his newest album Charlie by traveling across the country for his One Night Only tour.
There is one part of the concert that Charlie looks forward to every night. "It's when we just go crazy with the musicality of things," he said. "There's a song called ‘Somebody Told Me' off of my last record Voicenotes and we just stretch it out musically and I play my key guitar and we just wail on it."
Don't leave Charlie's shows early or you may miss out on his rendition of "See You Again," which serves as the grand finale. "For me, it's the song that started everything," he said. "It's the song that's transcended the most of my catalogue. ‘See You Again' has hundreds of different meanings for millions of different people. And of course I want to set out and write more music like that. It's like Billy Joel ending with ‘Piano Man.'"
How does Charlie sound so good night after night? His fitness routine may have something to do with it. "I feel like when I start my day off with a run, the notes come out better," he shared. "I do it of course to feel good about myself, but my vocal coach tells me to get on the treadmill first thing in the morning and do the vocal warmups on the treadmill."
Party like a rockstar? Hard pass. When the show is over, Charlie likes to recuperate on his tour bus sitting with his thoughts. "I know that sounds kind of boring, but I like to close my eyes and just think about what the future holds for me musically and in my life," he said. "Sometimes, I write songs in my head when that happens too."
When it comes to receiving compliments after the show, there is one Charlie never gets tired of hearing. "It's when a fan tells me that they started making music because of something that I did," he said. "I want to really drive the narrative home that you can live your life and experience things like I did while making this album and apply them towards art and make a melody out of it."
