"There's actually a story this year that [showrunner] Jeff [Schaffer] has been trying to get in since the very first day we told FX about The League, the first pitch meeting," his wife and co-showrunner Jackie Schaffer says. "Jeff really wanted to have a really in-depth conversation with everyone about, 'Where does your gardener shit?'" "He's out there all day, he can't use the house, you see what he's eating, right?" Jeff says. "Where is he going to the bathroom?" And Jackie jumps back in, "So it took seven years, and I have tried to subjugate this story for seven years. But now Jeff can die happy since it's in the final season."
When to Watch: Sunday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m.What to Expect: In the premiere, Elizabeth must take the oath of office when the president's plane disappears. Jill Hennessy joins the cast as Henry's new handler and Morgan Freeman, an executive producer on the series, will guest star and direct the premiere. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright will appear this season.
When to Watch: Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 9 p.m.What to Expect: Coulson and his team are going to have more on their plate to deal with than just an influx of Inhumans (dang fish oil pills!) thanks to Constance Zimmer's no-nonsense, highly-skilled and somewhat mysterious leader of the ATCU (Advanced Threat Containment Unit). This mysterious government organization is going to cause a lot of problems for S.H.I.E.L.D…but are they good or bad? "That's to be determined," Elizabeth Henstridge says. "But we're so excited to have Constance on the show, she's amazing. She's the perfect person to take on this role. But I can't say any more about it!"
When to Watch: Tuesday, Sept. 15 What to Expect: Joseph Gordon-Levitt is guest-starring. We're sorry, did you really need to know anything else? How about that he's playing her husband?! Relax, Danny lovers, as the premiere is a nod to Sliding Doors.
When to Watch: Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. What to Expect: Another Pritchett child recast! Similar to Lily's switch-up a few seasons back, Jeremy Maguire will be taking over the role of Fulgencio "Joe" Pritchett from Pierce Wallace.
When to Watch: Thursday, Nov. 5 at 9 p.m.What to Expect: It's a family reunion…and things are going to be tense as hell. Ellen Burstyn has been cast as Shirley Stabler, aka Bonnie's estranged mother who put her in foster care when she was a kid! And her timing couldn't be worse, since Christy just picked guest star June Squibb's character Dottie as the woman that she thinks might be the ideal grandmother. Since Squibb and Burstyn are set to share scenes, expect the claws to come out.
When to Watch: Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 10 p.m.What to Expect: New faces are making their way to Nashville! Not only is Aerosmith rock god Steven Tyler guest starring in season four, Luke is getting a new love interest who has also been hired as an image consultant for newly-out Will. Plus, a new character named Marcus Keen, a well-known rocker looking to kick start his solo career, is about to make Rayna's life a living hell…until sparks start flying between them, of course. Because what man hasn't fallen under Rayna's spell?!
When to Watch: Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m.What to Expect: Gibbs has been shot! Can Jon Cryer save him? The Two and a Half Men star has a multi-episode arc this season as Dr. Cyril Taft. Mimi Rogers returns in the premiere as Joanna Teague and DiNozzo teams up with her to take down the Calling.
When to Watch: Sunday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. What to Expect: Brave's Merida is coming! Scottish actress Amy Manson will take on the fierce role, while Jennifer Morrison will also be taking on a new role: Emma as the Dark One! How will her new role as a baddie impact her relationship with Hook? "Look, Hook loves Emma and he wants to try and protect her heart at any cost," Colin O'Donoghue tells us. "He's going to try and fight to bring her back to who she used to be."
When to Watch: Midseason, Saturdays at 9 p.m. What to Expect: A very different show than we saw in season one, at least at first. Jamie and Claire will be hanging out with the highest of French society and attempting to change history through politics. We'll also be meeting Claire and Jamie's grown-up daughter Brianna at some point, thanks to the magic of time travel.
When to Watch: Thursday, Oct. 8 at 9 p.m.What to Expect: Mark your calendars and prepare for the bloodbath, because it's an Original family reunion! Claire Holt, Nathaniel Buzolic and Casper Zafer are all set to reprise their roles as Rebekah, Kol and Finn Mikaelson in flashbacks in the season three premiere. But what about present day? "Claire is phenomenal and we love to have her on the show," executive producer Michael Narducci says. "We've got a whole flashback storyline that she will participate in, and then we have some ideas on how we might see Rebekah again in present day in both bodies. Not at the same time!"
When to Watch: Tuesdays beginning in JanuaryWhat to Expect: A five-year time-jump will find the girls all grown-up (with Alison married and Hanna engaged!) and living an A-free life...until a new villain emerges. "There's a new mystery. There's a little bit of old mystery dabbled in there, but not a lot," Marlene King teases. It's mostly new mystery. There will be a new Big Bad in their lives and a new mystery to solve."
When to Watch: Friday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m.What to Expect: Two queens means two courts! With the introduction of Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten), Reign will split time between France and England in season three, with viewers meeting a whole new host of characters. But will the two courts ever come together? "Obviously, they're a sea part from one another, but you will see some travel back and forth," showrunner Laurie McCarthy teases. "We will see some cross-pollination between the two courts."
When to Watch: Thursday, Sept. 24 at 9 p.m.What to Expect: Some new blood! But will they be Gladiators? Mia Maestro of The Strain fame will recur, but her role is being kept under wraps. Meanwhile, Cornelius Smith Jr. will return as Marcus Walker as a series regular and Portia de Rossi was upped to series regular. The new season picks up a few days after season four ended with Fitz and Olivia reunited, Mellie thrown out of the White House and Cyrus fired. "For me, what's exciting is exploring the possibility of what happens next," Shonda Rhimes told us, saying everyone won't be "bouncing right back" to where they were.
When to Watch: Monday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m.What to Expect: Another day, another crisis. In the big premiere, the team gets reunited to avert a nuclear crisis. Plus, Paige and Walter have to face their feelings. Yikes. Law & Order's Alana De La Garza begins her recurring role as Adriana Molina, the new head of Homeland Security, and Gene Simmons plays himself in the premiere. Because of course he does.
When to Watch: Sunday, Jan. 17 at 9 p.m.What to Expect: When Shameless finally returns this January, we'll get to meet Sammi's mother, Queen! The network is currently casting a woman in her late forties to early fifties, described as an earthy, sensual, flouncy, flamboyant, sexy and joyous woman whose "brief encounter" with Frank on top of a washing machine when they were sixteen (and high on ‘shrooms because of course) produced Sammi. Queen is a force of nature, "never really believed in contraception," loves to be naked and makes her real living off of a massive pot growing operation.
When to Watch: Sunday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m.What to Expect: Homer and Marge split up! Well, not really. You may recall that headline and various hot takes on the marriage at the heart of The Simpsons, but we can tell you it's just a trial separation. They aren't getting divorced. In the premiere, the ladies of Girls guest star. This season Sofia Vergara (featured in the pic) will voice Bart's teacher, Andrew Rannells will play himself and fear not, Harry Shearer and all his characters are returning after a very public exit and contract negotiations.
When to Watch: Thursday, Oct. 1 at 9 p.m.What to Expect: The Halloween crossover (which airs Oct. 29) with Bones will continue on Sleepy Hollow, when Ichabod's former nemesis is back from the dead, and Abbie and Ichabod require "advanced forensic help and expertise" from Booth and Brennan to stop him. In a nutshell, this is going to be bonkers, but also incredible. And expect new series regular Nikki Reed to stir up some Ichabbie drama when she makes her debut as Ichabod's ex, Betsy Ross. Yes, that Betsy Ross.
When to Watch: Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 9 p.m.What to Expect: No more bickering brothers! "You know what I'm really excited for? The boys are back on the same page," Jared Padalecki says. "It seems like they have bounced back and forth with each other so many times, they've been here, they've been there, yes and no, and now they're a united front again. That's always been my favorite part of Supernatural, when the boys team up and they are united. Sam and Dean Winchester, saving people, hunting things, the family business."
When to Watch: Thursday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m.What to Expect: After six seasons of romance, The Vampire Diaries is focusing on the love between the Salvatore brothers for season seven and we could not be more into this idea! "That's the central relationship at the heart of our show so we figured it's about time we showed that," executive producer Julie Plec says. "We'll see how the brothers deal with each other without Elena between them, how they feel about their mother Lily, and we're going to get back to the season one Damon we all fell in love with."
When to Watch: Sunday, Oct. 11 at 9 p.m. What to Expect: "You've got Morgan showing up, that's going to chance the dynamic," Gale Ann Hurd previews, adding that season six is "still dealing with the integration" between our group and the Alexandrian folks. "Can these two groups really find commonality and what happens when Morgan is thrown into the occasion, who has seemingly renounced violence except to protect himself?"
When to Watch: Sunday, Jan. 24 after the UFC game. Moves to regular, Mondays at 8 p.m. timeslot on Monday, Jan. 25.What to Expect: Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) together again! The show picks up years after the events of the second flick, 2008's The X-Files: I Want to Believe, and the former partners/lovers are no longer together. Don't cry too hard. "I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," series creator Chris Carter said when the show's revival was announced. "The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories."
Familiar faces back for the ride include Mitch Pileggi, William B. Davis, Annabeth Gish and a few more fan-favorites. Meanwhile, E!'s Joel McHale will be on hand to possibly cause a little trouble and Lauren Ambrose and Robbie Amell will appear as new FBI agents. Expect some answers to some of the original run's lingering questions, and maybe even more questions by the end of the six episodes.
When to Watch: Midseason on the CWWhat to Expect: Fret not, Clexa fans, Lexa will be back, even though Alycia Debnam-Carey's new show Fear the Walking Dead is kind of a big deal.
