The original American Idol has had one of the biggest fashion transformations of all. Since winning the first season, the soon-to-be mother has ditched the flip-flop heels (they were once all the rage in 2002!) and continuously looks classy and polished in everything she wears. Did you see her gorgeous wedding gown?! Perfection.
Perhaps the most dramatic and jaw-dropping style transformation of the group belongs to season three's Jennifer Hudson. Even though Hudson came in seventh place in the competition, her huge voice and gracious attitude led her to become a mega movie star, winning an Academy Award for her role in Dreamgirls. Throughout the years, Hudson has not only transformed her style, but also her body when she teamed up with Weight Watchers as one of their most inspirational spokeswomen.
When Carrie Underwood took the American Idol stage in season four, she was a huge fan of crimped hair and brightly printed dresses. Since winning the competition, and becoming a Grammy award-winning country legend, every girl is now envious of Carrie's closet. The blonde beauty regularly makes all of the best-dressed lists after every red carpet she attends, and has perfected a sophisticated and elegant style.
From that obnoxious dad who won't stop trying to tell jokes at your sleepover to a sophisticated and suave performer—Taylor Hicks has seriously done a 180 with his style since graduating from Idol. The silver fox winner of season five now continuously rocks black blazers when he take the stage and we want to send a box of chocolates to whoever snapped him out of his style-snafu.
Wow. Just… wow. Katharine McPhee first made her TV debut in Idol's fifth season wearing ripped jeans (sadly, we think the tears were intentional) a frumpy blazer and some kind of brown clog-type-things. Now, after appearing in a number of movies and starring in the short-lived series that we loved to hate, Smash, Katharine's style has drastically improved. Those spiked heels are fierce, Kat!
Despite finishing in sixth place in the fifth season, Kellie appeared on Idol in the height of the show's fame, and quickly became a country sensation. Over the years, Kellie's style has evolved from matchy-matchy to gorgeous and classy and she continues to be a fan-favorite in the country community.
Scotty originally appeared on Idol when he was just 17 years old, so we don't blame him for his lackluster teenage style. However, since winning the 10th season in 2011, the deep-voiced star has ditched the washed-out jeans and silver chains for slim-fitting suits with a dash of country charm. Hmm… it appears he's still a fan of the same belt, though.
Although we've got to give him props for trying to pull off a tie, throughout the eighth season, Kris always seemed to look like he was raiding his dad's closet for outfits. Now, the Idol winner's style is much more relaxed, although we think it's about time that he find a new pair of tennis shoes. Yuck!
Two words: Shell. Necklace. Clay Aiken's personal style was all over the place when he first stepped into the spotlight as Idol's season two victor. Luckily, baggy shirts, chunky shoes and gel-slicked hair are no longer apart of Clay's wardrobe. Now the crooner looks consistently dashing in fitted suits in a variety of fun colors.
Fans remember Kimberley from Idol's second season in which she placed third and had an affinity for all things fringe. Since her Idol days, Kimberley has stepped up her fashion game and opted for looks that are much more flattering to her sexy figure and great legs. No more muumuu's for this girl!
Jordin, what is that dress? It looks like you borrowed it from Drew Barrymore in Never Been Kissed! Luckily, after winning Idol in the sixth season, Jordin ditched the metallic fabrics and focused on making her style choices just as fabulous as her songs.
When we first met Fantasia in 2004, the R&B singer was a fan of all things tight, white and strappy. Now nearly 10 years later, the season three champion's fashion choices are far more elegant and flattering. (We're loving that red lipstick, girl!)
Since winning Idol in the seventh season, David has polished his look, but still maintained his rocker roots.
Ruben has always been a snappy dresser, but the singer looks even more stylish now that his clothes are a few sizes smaller. Ruben most recently appeared on the past season of NBC's The Biggest Loser, where the former Idol winner lost an incredible 119 pounds.
Since his first appearance on Idol in the eighth season, Adam's style has always been described as confidently eccentric. Nowadays, the Glee star's look is a lot more edgy, and a lot less John Travolta-y. He never leaves home without his favorite accessory: black eyeliner. Fierce.
