Even when the focus is on another member of the royal family, Prince William and Kate Middleton can't help but find their way into the spotlight.

Such was the case last night, when the couple reunited after Wills' heroic turn at sea at a gala hosted by Queen Elizabeth as a sort of kick-off party for festivities to come as part of the monarch's Diamond Jubilee Year—2012, as all good royalists know, marks her 60th year on the throne.

But while nearly all members of the royal family were present and accounted for—Prince Phillip, Prince Charles and Camilla, who dropped by before heading off to the premiere of Hugo, though the newly returned Prince Harry was nowhere in sight—all eyes were, as always, on Will and Kate, who positively dazzled in a sure to be sell-out Mulberry emerald dress.

In addition to a handful of British celebrities, the royals also met with a few hundred members of the media who will be reporting on the milestone celebration, to help set the stage and tone of the year to come. And if last night's event was anything to go by, it's going to be another banner year.
