Maybe they need to kiss and make up at the next MTV VMAs.

Despite having some nice things to say about Lady Gaga as a pop diva while making the media rounds before next month's heavily hyped Super Bowl Halftime Show headlining performance, Madonna couldn't help but opine about the controversy that the former ripped off the Material Girl's 1989 megahit "Express Yourself" for "Born This Way."

So what's Madonna's take on the subject?

Diss Alert! Madonna Doesn't Get Lady Gaga's "Obsessions"

While Gaga has called the Queen of Pop a huge inspiration, it's clear in Madonna's mind at any rate that the influence has extended uncomfortably down to chord structures, at least

"I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it's amusing and flattering and well done," she told ABC News' 20/20 in an interview. "There's a lot of ways to look at it. I can't really be annoyed by it …because, obviously, I've influenced her."

But the 53-year-old entertainer suggested that the Mother Monster's adulation went a little overboard when it came to "Born This Way."

"When I heard it on the radio …I said that sounds very familiar," she said. "It feels reductive."
