The Smash cast has a special little ditty to sing to you skeptics who thought the show wouldn't make it another year:

Nanny nanny billy goat!

Sources confirm that NBC is giving the freshman series an early pickup, in a (somewhat) surprising move. So how much longer will Smash go?

At least a second season. 'Cause NBC just gave it a season-two order.

Smash has been pulling in roughly 7.7 million (total) viewers on Monday nights. However, it's also an expensive series to make, and NBC poured quite a pretty penny into its advertising campaign. (You didn't happen to see any billboards around town anywhere, didja?) So it seems the Peacock net isn't yet ready to give up hope that Smash could become something even bigger. We're gonna call this move a double-down. And we dig it.

NBC confirms this news and points out that in total viewers, Smash has improved its time period by 100 percent (7.7 million vs. 3.9 million).

Who's watching Smash and do you think the early pick-up is warranted?
