Did Terra Nova Fight Off Extinction?

Monday's season finale can't beat CBS' comedy reruns in the TV ratings race, but otherwise does OK

Terra Nova aired its season finale last night.

The question is whether the Steven Spielberg sci-fi/adventure series aired its series finale, as well.

Last night's numbers were good and not-great. The good: 7.2 million viewers, per estimates. The not-great: a 2.2 rating among 18-49-year-olds.

Both performances were up from last week's, but, for the most part, weren't big enough to top CBS'  comedy reruns. They were also the latest comedown from the series' September premiere (9.2 million viewers; 3.1 demo rating).

Still, Terra Nova is not exactly looking extinct.

In Nielsen's latest weekly rankings, it scored enough overall viewers to land in 30th place, right between Fox favorites Glee and New Girl. Its 18-49 showing, however, was weak—it finished down there with a Family Guy repeat.

The series' strongest talking point may be that, while its numbers have fallen, they haven't fallen as much as that of another lavishly produced, much-hyped fall entry: Pan Am.

Here's a look at some other TV ratings winners and losers:

2 Broke Girls (7.7 million estimated viewers): Consistently huge all season; last night's No. 1 18-49 show.

Fear Factor (6.3 million estimated viewers): Monday's episode was down significantly from last week's return, but was still on the high side for NBC's low-rated lineup.

Hart of Dixie (1 million estimated viewers): Good thing teen boys aren't Rachel Bilson's make-it, break-it audience because last night's rerun registered an approximate 0.0 rating among the dudes.

Glee (7.1 million viewers; 29th place in weekly broadcast rankings): No bounce for the Christmas episode—the show was about even with the previous week.

Survivor: South Pacific (13.1 million viewers; 7th place in weekly broadcast rankings): Sophie Clarke's victory was on par, if a touch down, from Redemption Island's season finale.

Prime Suspect (3.7 million viewers; 75th place in weekly broadcast rankings): Its sub-1.0 demo rating made Grimm's 10 p.m., Thursday tryout look all the more impressive.

Saturday Night Live: Is there such a thing as too many cameos? Nope. The cameo-packed Jimmy Fallon-hosted episode led SNL to a new season high.

Dexter (2.2 million viewers): The sixth-season finale was down from the fifth-season's (2.5 million viewers), but was the show's No. 1 episode of the year.

Homeland (1.7 million viewers): It was all good for the first-season closer. The Claire Danes show hit a series high, and scored Showtime's best-ever numbers for a freshman finale.
