Following the deadly stage collapse at the country pop duo's concert last August, Sugarland returned to Indiana Friday to put on a free concert for victims of the tragic incident as promised.
"You are different, and we are different," Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles told the crowd at Conseco Fieldhouse, according to the Indianapolis Star. "We're all changed by what happened then. But we are going to try to give you the best show that we can."
Seven people died and more than 40 were injured as a result of the accident that occurred Aug. 13 at the Indiana State Fair, after heavy winds blew over a stage rigging just before Sugarland was set to hit the stage.
Nettles told the crowd that she and band mate Kristian Bush had visited the fair grounds prior to the concert.
During the benefit performance which celebrated healing, life and music in honor of those who were injured, Nettles and band mateKristian Bush went on to give a 90-minute concert for the capacity crowd (around 18,000 people), singing "Tonight" and "Little Miss" among other hits.
Concertgoers were encouraged to donate $10 to the Indiana State Fair Remembrance Fund by texting the word "fair" to 27722 at the show, which marked the final date of the musicians' Incredible Machine Tour.
