Wait, so was this why Rhys Ifans was a "surprise guest" at the Amazing Spider-Man panel yesterday?

The Welsh actor was cited for misdemeanor battery for allegedly roughing up a female security guard before the cast was announced with much ado toward the end of a long, action-filled day in the cavernous Hall H. Ifans did not join his mates until about 10 or so minutes into the panel (which started late because of other panels running long), when he was confirmed as Spidey's main nemesis, Lizard.

Several guards told E! News that there was some "pushing and shoving" between the two which later led to his arrest by San Diego's Finest who wrote up the citation on the spot.

"He was aggressive and belligerent," San Diego Police Lt. Andra Brown told The Wrap.

And here we thought his silence was just because all the questions were for Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone!

Don't worry, Ifans isn't going to be deported back to Wales or anything. According to Brown, he will be fined or have to appear to contest his case before a judge.

"But according to him, the U.S. sucks and he doesn't want to come back," Brown said.

Um, maybe his opinion changed after he was introduced to the adoring crowd...?

A Sony rep has not immediately responded to a request for comment.
