Just weeks after Sinéad O'Connor tied the knot with Barry Herridge in a quickie Vegas wedding, then split with him just 18 days later only to see the two patch things up, the "Nothing Compares 2 U" hitmaker is now ending the union once and for all.
Nothing compares to heartache apparently.
In a statement posted on her official website, the 45-year-old Irish singer thanked fans for all their support over what's undoubtedly been a tumultuous month while lashing out at the Irish media, certain sections of which she called "pure evil" for hurting her relationship with her husband.
"These people, along with others caused enormous damage deliberately and maliciously to my innocent flower of a husband, purely because he was with me," O'Connor wrote. "And so his association with me became something very bad for his life. And slowly since we were married I became very ill as result of what was done to my husband and I was unable to cope. And became very depressed."
She called out, but did not identify by name, one paper in particular that "consequently made the marriage untenable" and pleaded for the press to let Herridge get on with his life.
"I will never again associate myself romantically with anyone as I could not bear to see these things done again to someone I love," the controversial crooner added by way of explaining their divorce.
O'Connor also spent plenty of ink slamming one unnamed reporter (she ID'd him on Twitter as Irish Mirror showbiz columnist Paul Martin) whom she called a bully for trying to "lose my husband his job" as a counselor for drug-addicted teenagers.
The twice-married Sinéad concluded her missive with some self-affirming statements right out of a Bridget Jones movie.
"Well guys, I'm gonna be me. And if anyone doesn't like that they can seek therapy. Because I am wonderful. Exactly as I am. As Bridge Jones would say. And I shall continue being me," she declared. "If being me means certain Irish media will try to destroy my romantic life.. So be it."
News of O'Connor's divorce comes just two days after she made headlines for disturbing tweets in which she told her followers she was in "serious danger," needed medication and asked for recommendations for a psychiatrist she could see in Dublin. She also posted her personal email for those who reply.
