The British press went crazy as crumpets over the weekend when, after three years of understandably striving to keep the identity of her son Henry's baby daddy a private matter, Minnie Driver finally caved and exposed her biggest media secret. Well, sort of.
And judging from her overactive Twitter feed, she seems to be suffering from a bit of revealer's remorse.
Her personal disclosure was made to Observer magazine over the weekend, when she was discussing her new British indie, Hunky Dory. The conversation somehow got around to the giant question mark hovering, at least in public, over her son's paternity.
"We weren't together and he wasn't directly in the business, so I chose to protect him and not have a rain of publicity" Driver said, explaining her reasons for keeping his identity under wraps. Clearly, the plan didn't work.
"I know, but it's ridiculous. He's not famous. There's no big story."
Well, there is now. While Minnie never identified by name the man who fathered her now three-year-old son, but apparently some details emerged that revealed (or suggested) he was a writer on her former FX show The Riches.
"I don't need to protect him any more. He can fend for himself. He's a grownup," she told the magazine, going on to offer an assessment of his parenting skills that's not exactly glowing.
"Sort of," she said when asked if he was a good dad. "He's figuring it out…I mean, he hasn't been that involved; his choice. But he is now."
Cut to yesterday and today, when Minnie has been busy tweeting about the article and the coverage it (inevitably) yielded.
Chief among her complaints seems to be the magazine revealing (or maybe simply reveling in) her disclosure, but it's still unclear whether Minnie declared her baby daddy a Riches writer, or if the Observer did some digging in order to make the leap itself.
Judging by her tweets, it seems there was something she took issue with in the Daily Mail (though the online version of the article makes doesn't seem to make mention of it).
"I love how one is deemed 'incredibly secretive' if you don't share personal info with the press," she tweeted yesterday. "I have to say, it is cruel and unusual to have @observermagazine source the 'truth' about my past from the archives of The Daily Mail."
To another supportive tweet which lambasted putting "truth" and "daily mail" in the same sentence in the article, Driver replied, "Oxymoron. Hold the oxy."
Something tells us that's the last interview she'll be giving that magazine for a while.
