Robin Roberts is on the rebound.

After breast cancer surgery last Friday, the Good Morning America cohost's recovery is going well enough that she plans to return to the anchor desk on Monday, ABC News announced.

"She is still awaiting her test results but is feeling great and looking forward to getting back to work," GMA spokeswoman Bridgette Maney said.

Maney said the operation was a success and Roberts' physicians believe they caught the cancer in the beginning stages.

Roberts was discharged from the hospital the same day and has spent the last week recuperating at her home surrounded by her mother and sisters, who flew to New York from their homes in Mississippi and Louisiana.

Roberts is said to be in good spirits.

The morning fixture discovered a lump on her breast after GMA movie critic Joel Siegel died of colon cancer.

A biopsy revealed an early form of the disease, and the telejournalist broke the news of her medical condition onair last week with cohost Diane Sawyer.

"I woke up in the recovery room with sweet Diane gently tugging on my big toe," the former college hoops star said in a message posted Thursday on ABCNews.com.  "As you can imagine, I am still quite sore from the procedure and need to take some time for my body to heal."

Roberts, who has no family history of breast cancer, also marveled at all the wonderful encouragement she's received from so many viewers since revealing her diagnosis.

"I cannot even begin to adequately say thank you. I have truly been touched by your emails and messages of support," she wrote. "I am so thankful to hear many of you are taking action and your own health.

"Thank you for sharing your stories," she continued. "You inspire me more than you could possibly know. My family and I are eternally grateful."

Roberts, who was a newsreader and regular fill-in for Sawyer and Charles Gibson, was promoted to coanchor of ABC's morning show in May 2005.
