Prince William and Kate Middleton Bank (and Look!) a Million Bucks at Private Charity Dinner

Royals raise astounding seven-figures at private gala for Child Bereavement Charity held at St. James's Palace

Nice try, little sister. If anyone had a shot of upstaging a Middleton, it was another Middleton, but alas—not this time.

Turns out, while Pippa Middleton was getting in touch with her demure side while attending a breast cancer awareness fundraiser last night, across fair London town, Prince William and Kate Middleton were getting in touch with their own charitable sides.

So what were the young royals up to?

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge served as the guests of honor at the 100 Women in Hedge Hunds gala, a private dinner held on the chi-chi grounds of St. James's Palace last night.

The event, which raised a whopping $1 million over the course of the black-tie night to benefit the Child Bereavement Charity, a cause close to Wills' heart and a charity for which he serves as patron (the organization's CEO, Ann Chalmers, was even an invited guest at Will and Kate's wedding earlier this year).

"What you are both doing together to alleviate the suffering of children who have lost family members, and bereaved families who have experienced the tragedy of losing a child, is beyond praise," the prince said in a speech before the sit-down dinner, while Kate proudly looked on.

The duo was joined by 300 female leaders across the hedge fund industry. The event, incidentally, was the second collaboration between Will and the 100 Women in Hedge Funds on charitable initiatives. The prince partnered with the organization for a three-year period, and they have focused on one of this three favored charities each year: last year Centrepoint held a similar gala to benefit the homeless, and next year's event will be held in honor of Skill Force, a charity that helps British youths.

As for Middleton, she didn't give any speeches, but, as always, let her clothes do the talking.

Wearing a floor-length, billowy-sleeved red wrap dress (reminiscent of, but nowhere near as daring as Pippa's fashion choice last week) by Beulah London with her trademark shiny locks flowing in curls, while Wills donned the requisite penguin suit.

It's Kate's first charity outing since getting named a patroness of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry last week.
